Shana Stewart | FOUNDER + CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Shana is a Richmond, Virginia native. Growing up, never were her hands idle, always outside playing in the stream, collecting moss and making mud pies, camping in the woods with family, building fairy houses of bark and rubble. Once to Highschool, taking all the art classes she could then diving further into each discipline at home, no matter the medium: stained glass, beads, painting, drawing, photography or clay. After receiving a BFA in Ceramics from a small college in Iowa, Shana took advantage of her resources, moved to Oregon to work on an organic farm, participating in the CSA and running the farmers market stand where her love for community and people flourished. Then, she headed further west to live in Hawaii, learning the basics of Permaculture and immersing her senses in the raw volcanic hills, exploring the unfamiliar fauna and flora, and assisting in orchid and mushroom cultivation.

In 2002, she returned to Richmond and worked for a large flower shop for 8 years, then took a leap and established Sassy Snapdragon Florals in 2010. Her fine arts and crafts background is particularly helpful when working on weddings and events because she takes the whole environment into consideration, allowing for the overall designs to feel like they naturally belong in the space.

Her approach to florals can be considered organic, sassy, and intuitive.  Playing on the same design elements of fine art , Shana and the Sassy Snapdragon team manifest beautiful and unique floral designs that are sure to leave an imprint.

Shana continues to create in clay at the Visual Arts Center and  alongside her wood carving  partner,Sean  regularly sells their creations at local craft markets.
